The Website Messaging

Issues surrounding gambling are manyfold and diverse. It is likely that for any one individual visiting DBYLOI there will be areas of concern not highlighted in the messaging. It is almost inevitable because no ‘one’ product can be expected to cover such a full range of diversity. But our continuing work with Lived-Experience, plus the data collected from DBYLOI, will help us keep up-to-date and improving as we go. In fact, developing Ed into the future is one of the most exciting aspects of the DBYLOI ‘Player-Led’ initiative.

DBYLOI messaging is not concentrated on those most severely affected, instead it seeks to get into the player's mind-set much, much earlier. So, Prevention, or very early Intervention, is the ‘key’.

Safer Gambling is the starting point. DBYLOI messaging covers three areas:

  • Transparency and integrity.
  • To explain the concept and development of the product.
  • To demonstrate what can be achieved by working with Lived-Experience.

The ‘Players Toolbox’ is there to increase self-awareness, recognition and understanding. It has twenty-six categories. It does not mean there are only 26 categories. It is not a step-by-step instruction manual. Rather, it is designed to allow the player to think and consider. This is a self-analysis tool. It is there to empower the individual.

The secondary objective of the messaging is to enable the player to have a conversation with significant others. To possess a tool which helps troubled individuals explain how they feel and why they do certain things is invaluable, and something that Lived-Experience has told us has been missing in the past.
